As winter rolls in we are keeping ourselves busy. Autumn was a time for making memories, enjoying our walking trails and learning a little more about our coastline.

Wexford Walking Trails

Back in July , Wexford Walking Trail & Gorey Library hosted a thoroughly enjoyable talk on the numerous Walking Trails accessible here in North Wexford. We had a unique opportunity to make a small presentation on our wonderful Walking Trails in Courtown. Why not immerse yourself in nature and explore these top class amenities right on our doorstep.

 

Memory Walks with Alzheimer Ireland

Courtown Community Council were delighted to assist in this years Alzheimer Society of Ireland

Memory Walk held in Courtown Woods on Saturday 24th September. The Alzheimer Society of Ireland opened a new Day Care branch at Riverchapel in North Wexford last April which provides day care services for people living with dementia in the area. The society also provides home care supports to 90 families across Wexford. These supports are a lifeline for many families who have a loved one living with dementia.

Coastwatch Ireland visits Courtown

In September Coastwatch Ireland co ordinator Karin Dubsky appealed for citizen scientists to join its annual shore survey, which rans until late October. Courtown Community Council surveyed 4 coastal units, gathered 5 water samples, documented various plants, native and non native and even identified a protected species! Thanks to Karin Dubsky for guiding us through the survey process. It was certainly was an enlightening and fulfilling few weeks.

The collected data will be sent to Coastwatch, Civil & Environmental Engineering at Trinity College Dublin, for further analysis. To learn more about Coastwatch All Ireland Surveys go to www.coastwatch.org
