Voices from the Past

In June 2021 the Courtown Community Council commissioned Michael Fortune from Folklore.ie to produce a four part series of interviews. Funded with the support of an Arts and Amenity Grant from Wexford County Council. Our Chairperson Linda Sinnott was involved in the project assisting Mr Fortune with his research.

Molly, Peter, and Bernadette take us back to the Courtown they grew up in, their memories, stories and are just waiting to be heard!

This song features on a collection of films by Michael Fortune entitled ‘Songs of the Wexford Coast - The Films Volume 1’ which was inspired by the 1948 publication by Father Joseph Ranson.

Molly Beckett grew up in Courtown, listen to how her Great Grandfather arrived in the area many years ago!

Peter tells the notorious tale of himself and two friends took a 2 man canoe to Wales for the craic in 1960!

Listen to Bernadette from Riverchapel talk about her childhood growing up playing in the sand dunes in Ardamine!

Waiting on the fourth video, in the meantime, enjoy this rendition of Lord Courtown by James McDonald. James parents, Marie and Robbie owned the 19th Pub in the harbour.

Make it stand out.
