National Tree Week
With it being National Tree Planting Week, We thought it might be a nice idea to reflect on the Tree Planting Schemes we have been involved with here in Courtown. Four years Jesh Taucher from Seal Rescue, along with a team of local volunteers, planted a range of native Irish trees on Branóg Head, Glenavon, the Burrow Road, Ballycanew, Ballymoney and a number of other places.
Tree lovers of Courtown Unite!
Tree planting is extremely important for more reasons than we can list. Supporting thousands of insects, birds and small mammals, providing oxygen, shade, improving soil quality, and even reducing anti social behaviour!
To date Courtown Community Council has been involved in the planting of over 5000 trees! Four years on, not all have survived, but a great many have! We have about a 70% success rate, which is on the higher side of the national average, so we are calling that a win!
The next time you are walking down the Burrow, take a look at some of the Saplings edging the old Cricket Pitch. We planted Hazel, Holly, Oak, and lots more. These trees should help slow down the coastal erosion.
Meanwhile, the trees planted in the greater Courtown Area are now in their 4th year and getting stronger every year.
This was all part of a Community Climate Action Project, we hope for more restoration work to keep our home looking beautiful!
